The UBC Sauder’s Business Technology Management Office (BTMO) is creating smart, sustainable business solutions by working closely with teams across the business school, helping UBC Sauder achieve its strategic objectives by implementing technology-driven solutions that make business processes more efficient, support better decision-making, and improve overall operations.

Working directly with business users and stakeholders, the Business Technology Analyst assesses business needs to align business initiatives with information technology solutions. The Business Technology Analyst provides expertise in the areas of business requirements elicitation, business process mapping, product research and evaluation, system implementation, testing, training, and documentation to deliver technology solutions for the UBC Sauder School of Business and integrating with the UBC ecosystem. The Business Technology Analyst also provides support to the business units and training/documentation on these technology solutions. Projects may have a medium to high degree of complexity, influence, and impact as solutions may be designed for multiple business units within UBC Sauder .

Work Performed

  • Assesses client needs utilizing a structured requirements process (eliciting, analyzing, documenting, and managing changes) to identify business priorities and recommends options and technical solutions.
  • Identifies, elicits, and documents business requirements, defines business rules and communicates requirements for the implementation of business solutions.
  • Performs market research of vendors and products, assesses and evaluates options.
  • Communicates with stakeholders of varying technical ability and subject matter expertise.
  • Facilitates planning sessions to implement integrated business process improvements and documents discussion and agreements.
  • Provides support in the development of policies and procedures.
  • Analyzes metrics to measure for client satisfaction.
  • Provides input to feasibility studies for standard development projects and enhancements.
  • Provides technical guidance to less-experienced individuals.
  • Prepares business and functional requirements.
  • Provides support to the quality assurance efforts of projects.
  • Provides support to the identification of project risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Develops user test cases and validates test results during user acceptance testing stage. Typically performs functional testing.
  • May prepare project status reports and communicate status to key stakeholders
  • Provides initial support, investigation, and resolution to UBC Sauder systems and applications, and escalate to the appropriate parties when needed.
  • Ensures solutions are in alignment with the business needs of UBC Sauder and complies with UBC IT and UBC policies, as well as legislation and compliance requirements on security, privacy, and accessibility.
  • Provides end user training and procedural manuals.
  • Builds and maintains good working relationships with project teams, UBC Sauder stakeholders, UBC IT, and vendors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with business requirements elicitation, business process mapping, business application and system support.
  • Proven knowledge and continuous learning of business analysis discipline and best practices. Working knowledge of project management, quality assurance disciplines and best practices; and software development methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in producing BRDs, use cases, user stories, BPMs.
  • Proven working knowledge and experience with Salesforce. Salesforce Certified Administrator credential is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Drupal, Tableau, identity and access management, data integrations and conversions, payment solutions, marketing automation and event management or equivalent higher education supporting technologies is an asset.
  • Knowledge of business process re-engineering / improvement.
  • Good understanding of key trends and players in the IT industry and higher-education sector.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience in a higher education environment is an asset.
  • Actively solicits ideas and opinions from others to efficiently and effectively accomplish specific objectives targeted at defined business outcomes.

Compensation Range

$6,747.50 - $9,701.42 CAD Monthly

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.
