At Music & Arts (part of Guitar Center), the Analytics Team is deploying data products to inform and empower the company with insights that drive customer success and business value. We are looking for a Senior Analyst with a focus on marketing and ecommerce to help advance that vision as part of the data team dedicated to Music & Arts, which is part of the larger central Data Org. You will work with stakeholders to help inform their current initiatives and long-term roadmap with data.  You will be a key part of a dynamic data team that works daily with strategic partners to deliver data, prioritize resources and scale our impact.  This is a chance to affect millions of musicians at the country’s largest musical retailer, and your success as part of a world-class analytics organization will be visible up to the highest levels of the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will be the primary analytics partner to M&A’s marketing and ecommerce department.  Leveraging your analytics experience, you will work with business leaders and your manager to identify priorities and then independently deliver impactful work.
  • Support stakeholder needs with: reporting, KPI definition, performance measurement, and deeper analytical insights. Achieve scale by contributing to best practices, automating processes, and identifying structural needs.
  • Drive analytics projects and experiments from end to end. Translate a business question into an analytical framework, efficiently produce reliable data, generate insights through analysis, and effectively communicate recommended actions.
  • Plan, execute, and analyze AB test experiments to establish causal relationships.
  • Identify trends and find opportunities to unlock new sources of growth and customer success.

About Music & Arts

The first Music & Arts was located in a small house in Bethesda, MD and run by founder Benjamin O'Brien. When Music & Arts opened its doors in 1952, we offered printed music, music lessons, dance lessons, and art supplies. Ben decided shortly after opening his business that he wanted to focus on music to better serve his customers -- a decision that remains intact to this day.

Since the 1990's, Music & Arts has expanded nationwide through organic growth and a series of acquisitions and mergers with other music dealers. In 2005, Music & Arts joined forces with American Music to become the largest band and orchestra instrument retailer in the United States. Based in Frederick, MD, Music & Arts is now part of the Guitar Center enterprise and comprises 200+ retail stores, 120+ educational representatives, and 300+ affiliate locations.

To join our band you will need the following experience:

  • Bring 3+ years of professional analytics or analytics-related experience and a team-player attitude, with a demonstrated track record of delivering data projects.
  • You bring prior experience with digital marketing and/or ecommerce to leverage in partnership with the business.
  • You solve problems in your sleep. Applying critical thinking and a willingness to dive into the data, you produce immediate value while still keeping an eye on long-term strategy and scalability.
  • Deploy advanced skills in SQL and data visualization/storytelling.
  • You take ownership seriously and hold yourself accountable to always deliver in a reliable manner that builds trust. You thrive at a fast pace and managing multiple work streams.
  • You have experience with data visualization tools, Looker or Omni a plus
  • Proficiency in web / product analytics platforms
  • You are a curious self-starter, driven to solve problems and find answers. You take charge and flourish when meeting a challenge.
  • You are excited to ask questions, push boundaries and follow where data leads in pursuit of new opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Effective communication and people skills with the ability to partner with diverse audiences.
  • Experiences in omni-channel marketing performance analytics to measure true impact and contribution margin, going beyond CPA and ROAS, including but not limited to A/B tests and statistical experiment design, and understanding online-offline relationships
  • Marketing and CRM experiences including audience segmentation, customer journey mapping, audience data activation to digital ad platforms.
  • You have a familiarity with aggregating data sources & data modelling, eg in DBT or LookML, and with statistical analysis tools (i.e. Python, R).
  • You enjoy working in a highly dynamic environment where have a strong voice and your decisions have a significant impact.
  • Retail and/or music industry knowledge is a plus. Also prior experience with subscription-based businesses

This position is on-site at Music & Art’s headquarters in Frederick, Maryland, with in-office attendance expected 3 days a week. Exceptional remote candidates will be given consideration, and only in the following eligible states: IL,WA,CA,MO,AZ,TX,FL,OR,IN,MD,CO,VA.

Pay Rate: $100,000 - $120,000/yr depending on background and experience.
